3 am and still awake… #BehindTheBlogger
It’s 2:15am and you’re still awake. You’ve been in bed since 11:00pm because you thought you would try to fall asleep at a “reasonable” hour. Instead, your mind has raced for three hours and deep down you know you have at least another hour of this before maybe, just maybe, you’ll fall asleep. Your mind is replaying what you did yesterday and imagining what you are going to do tomorrow. You just have so much going on that you can’t turn off your brain. Sound familiar?
I’m not the only one
I know I’m not the only one who goes through this regularly. I just can’t seem to get my mind to slow down. My insomniac thoughts are relentless.
My insomniac thoughts are relentless.
I have become such an effective thought factory that I have done everything from recite my favorite movie start to finish in my head to developing a strategy to combat drug addiction among ex-offenders.
The thing about being a night owl is that you inevitably spend an excessive amount of time in your head. From the seemingly endless nights I’ve spent awake and looking inward, I’ve sorted through a lot of ideas, strategies, and experiences.
One thing I’ve realized most recently is that I have fully embraced my night owl tendencies. To some extent, this may not be wise. By doing so, I’m actively sacrificing sleep. For example, right as I’m writing this, it is 2:46am. I have to be at work at 8:50am, which is 30 minutes from my house. Oh shit, come to think of it, I better go to bed. Sleep, although I both love and hate it, is necessary.
Thank you for reading a story from #BehindTheBlogger Hop. Every 2 weeks a group of bloggers is given a writing prompt. These prompts are very open ended, so our bloggers can write about whatever they desire. The main rule is that their blog post directly relates to the topic of that week. The point of this hop is for our readers to get to know us on a personal level.
Please hop along and read all of the blog posts in this weeks hop. Just click the links below. If you want real and raw emotion, then you will find it here. After you read each post, please comment and share. We want to get to know you too!
